# Quickstart

> Connect WiseGuard to Claude or Claude Code, then check that it works.

## Before you start

You need a WiseGuard account. If you don't have one yet, you can create one when you sign in. New accounts go through checkout first, and a trial counts.

Looking things up is free. Changing aliases and sending email cost [AI agent credits](/guides/credits), which come with a paid plan. Trials don't include credits. See [Plan requirement](/guides/sign-in-and-permissions#plan-requirement).

WiseGuard works with Claude and Claude Code. Other AI apps can't connect yet.

## Connect

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Claude">
    Works in Claude on desktop and on the web.

    <Steps>
      <Step title="Add a custom connector">
        In Claude, open **Settings → Connectors** and choose **Add custom connector**.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Paste the URL">
        Name it **WiseGuard** and paste this URL:

        ```text wrap theme={null}
        https://api.wiseguard.ai/mcp
        ```
      </Step>

      <Step title="Sign in and approve">
        Click **Connect**, sign in to WiseGuard and approve access.
      </Step>
    </Steps>
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Claude Code">
    Works in the terminal and in Claude Code's IDE extensions.

    <Steps>
      <Step title="Add the server">
        Run this in your terminal:

        ```bash wrap theme={null}
        claude mcp add --transport http wiseguard https://api.wiseguard.ai/mcp
        ```
      </Step>

      <Step title="Sign in and approve">
        In Claude Code, run `/mcp`, choose **wiseguard**, then sign in to WiseGuard and approve access.
      </Step>
    </Steps>
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

The connector uses Streamable HTTP and OAuth, so you don't need an API key. See [Sign-in and permissions](/guides/sign-in-and-permissions) for what you approve.

## Try it

Ask your agent:

```text wrap theme={null}
Which WiseGuard account are you connected to?
```

The agent calls [`wiseguard_whoami`](/tools/account). The tool replies in this shape, and your agent tells you the result:

```text wrap theme={null}
Connected as j***@gmail.com; plan <your plan> (<billing state>); <N> AI agent credits left.
```

The billing state is something like `trial_active` or `paid`.

Then try a real task, like "Make me an alias for netflix.com". On a trial this fails, because trials don't include credits. See [Example prompts](/guides/example-prompts) for more.

## If it doesn't work

* **The sign-in window doesn't open, or sign-in fails.** Check that you pasted the URL exactly. Then try again.
* **The agent says the app was disconnected.** You disconnected it in WiseGuard. [Reconnect it](/guides/sign-in-and-permissions#disconnect-and-reconnect).
* **Anything else.** See [Troubleshooting](/guides/troubleshooting).
